CHP Reporting Record Number of Accidents as Rain Continues to Pummel Northbay

Number of collisions triple of what officers see on a dry day

The unexpected rain has created a mess on North Bay roads with dozens of accidents being reported Tuesday.

As of 2:30pm Tuesday, there were a total of 40 collisions, according to the California Highway Patrol. Most were non-injury collisions, with a few minor injuries and many have been solo vehicle spinouts. All have been due to drivers not adjusting their speed for the wet conditions.

At 12 pm, a Santa Rosa driver collided with a CHP officer on the westbound onramp of State Route 12, after he lost control of his car and spun out. Neither party was injured, but the accident caused the ramp to be closed for 45 minutes.

About an hour and a half later, a four vehicle collision was reported on the northbound Highway 101 connector to eastbound State Route, closing the ramp for approximately 40 minutes.

The CHP is reminding drivers that headlights should be turned on when it rains and driving speed reduced to avoid accidents.
