Counterfeiting Operation Found in Penngrove Home

Items found during parole violation arrest

A Penngrove man is suspected of running a counterfeit drivers' license and credit card operation from his home, according to the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office.

Christopher Matheson, 34, was arrested Wednesday at his home for a parole violation, according to Lt. Dennis O'Leary. After the arrest, detectives got a search warrant for his home and discovered equipment and machinery to produce counterfeit drivers' licenses and credit cards, O'Leary said.

Detectives believe Matheson was selling the fraudulent credit cards and using them to purchase items, O'Leary said. Among items found in the home were blank plastic cards, magnetic strips and holograms.

"We are in the preliminary stages of this investigation and will be consulting with the DMV and bank investigators," O'Leary said.
