Dog Who Bit Firefighter Will Not be Put Down

Indi, a 5-year-old pit bull mix, was scheduled to be euthanized after she bit a Petaluma firefighter.

A dog who bit a firefighter while responders tended to her owner's father will not be euthanized as was planned, the Santa Rosa Press Democrat reports.

A Petaluma Fire Department captain was bitten on the hand and leg on Sept. 16 while at the English Street home of the owner's father, the newspaper reported. Following that incident, officials held 5-year-old pit bull mix Indi for a 10-day rabies quarantine, and planned to euthanize her this week.

The dog may now receive training from a Santa Rosa rescue program, Petaluma Animal Services officials told the Press Democrat.

The dog hasn't shown any aggression while staying at the animal shelter, the newspaper said.
