Dryer Causes Garage Fire Sunday

No injuries reported

Firefighters responded to a fire at an Eastside home Sunday morning that appeared to be caused by a dryer.

The fire was reported shortly before 9:30am in the 200 block of Prince Albert Way, off Rainier Avenue. No injuries were reported and damage was contained to the laundry area and contents of the garage.

One of the causes of fires in dryers is from lint that accumulates and reduces airflow. To prevent fires, cleaning the screen/filter after drying each load of clothes is recommended along with the dryer vent and exhaust duct.

Check the outside dryer vent while the dryer is operating to make sure exhaust air is escaping. If it is not, the vent or the exhaust duct may be blocked.
