Fire Near Railroad Tracks Extinguished Wednesday Afternoon

Two abandoned buildings sustained minor damage.

Firefighters extinguished a grass fire located near railroad tracks in Petaluma on Wednesday afternoon, according to fire officials.

At 4:23 p.m. on Wednesday, firefighters responded to a report of a quarter acre grass fire near the intersection of West Payran Street and Rocca Drive.

The fire was located in a small lot between the railroad tracks and Rocca Drive. The blaze threatened structures on Rocca Drive as well as Cedar Grove Parkway, according to fire officials.

While the fire came close to a number of structures, none received major damage. The siding of two abandoned buildings received minor damage, fire officials said.

The train lines were shut down until firefighters were able to fully extinguish the grass fire, fire officials said.

No injuries were sustained and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
