Former Petaluma Resident One of 3 Men Killed in Forestville

Authorities say the men were killed Tuesday during a drug deal

A Petaluma man is one of three victims in Tuesday's murder on a rural property in Forestville, the result of a drug deal gone bad, according to authorities.

Raleigh Butler, a former Petaluma resident, and two other men were found in the 9700 block of Ross Station Road  in Foresville.

The home is being rented by Butler’s mother, who was out of state when the shooting occurred.

Homicide detectives are investigating the scene and conducting interviews, but say they believe the triple murder occurred during a marijuana deal at the home.

Check back throughout the day as we work to update the story.

cruelworld February 7, 2013 at 05:37 am
yea cause hundreds of pounds are worth the death of a friend, love, brother, and son. you ignorant prick
Concerned Citizen February 7, 2013 at 02:33 pm
Unfortunately, death can be an occupational hazard of dealing drugs. What a waste indeed. I feel for the family member's of the victims, and the pain they now have to deal with.

It's all bad!

This is why we have dispenseries and regulations these people where partaking in illegal sales of marijuana and were breaking the law. This is why pot gets a bad wrap because of people like the 3 who were killed. They should have never been doing what they were doing at all. I agree with angelo g. Its the cost of doing illegal crimanal acts.

Pot gets a bad rap....how about the guns? Anyone? Thank god, they're OK, but are we really ready to legalize? This country is so strange...

ralligh was one of the most rightious, beutiful, kind spirits ive ever met. He will be missed by many and would like everyone to know he was a very egoless person with so much love. To kai thats why we should legalize all drugs and take the value away from drugs for its the goverment that makes them worth anything. the cost of doing a criminal act? your such an unsepathetic doosh. no ones perfect except you right? people make money in their own ways and the sale of a plant or way of life should not be decided by the goverment and cant believe you could support a system that is unjust and unfair. Although you stand by their laws? illegal criminal acts.. wow!
Concerned Citizen February 8, 2013 at 12:13 pm
This is a classic Straw Man Fallacy argument presented by Dfill. When the "people" decide something should be "legal", only then they will force Congress to change our laws. Dfill obviously has forgotten our system of Government, and how it works. While we all sympathize with the families of the lost loved ones, when you engage in Illegal Criminal Behavior, no matter WHAT the behavior is, your run the risk of being arrested, assaulted or killed. Nobody deserved to die in this incident, but it could have easily been prevented, had the victims simply procured their own Medical Pot cards, and had their own personal AND LEGAL stash. Greed killed them, not the government.
kal February 8, 2013 at 01:38 pm
Dfill your an idiot you and your friends are illegal pot growers. You should think about it if we made all drugs legal we would have a bunch of dope feinds running around. Grow up dfill cut your hair and get a real job. These guys were trying to make quick money and they got killed for it, maybe they should have got real jobs and not been brokering pot.

In a weird way it seems like CA is getting setup & the way the laws are working is creating a very dangerous environment for West Sonoma County & Humboldt & Mendo. Sorry for your loss. This whole thing is unsettling. We have product that can triple in price when sold out of CA. Big ramifications & sloppy laws leave us vulnerable.
kal February 8, 2013 at 02:23 pm
Were not being setup phoebe we live in a state full of morons who don't pay there taxes and think they can do whatever they want. These guys were out of towners with the exeption of butler do you think he was paying taxes. I bet they were not and no I have no sympathy for drug dealers. In other countries they would be inprisoned for 20 years. But in the u.s. we let them continue there cases for years.
kal February 8, 2013 at 02:28 pm
Marijuana should be illegal and should only be available to the deathly ill. Because 90% of the people smoking it are not hurt or sick there pot heads, and 10% are sick and need it.
Phoebe Jones February 8, 2013 at 02:51 pm
Well kal, you certainly seem to have all the answerers. My point, I used to live out there & I hate to see murders like this happening. I realize they were drug dealers but I'm not all that interested in judging them. Do you think this is an isoloated case. Surely not the case. Do you think that large corporations are paying their fair share of taxes? Surely not the case. Job oportunities are scarce & let's face it West Sonoma & Humboldt counties have become the pot capital of the country. I would rather legalize pot than be shot if hiking on state or county land & inadvertantly get shot by cartel run drug pot gardens. Even those of us who have no interest in drugs become effected.
kal February 8, 2013 at 03:10 pm
Well pheobe I live here less than 5 miles and these people are ruinning are economy and everyone including the corparation pay taxes in one way or another. It is not legal that is all that matters, out of state people should stay out of are state there contributing to the deaths in the south midwest and east coast. These are statistical facts read up on it.
kal February 8, 2013 at 03:21 pm
I don't claim to have all the answers but I am educated in the marijuana world and in real life buisness. Everyone who is involved in large transactions like this probably was are breaking the law. Without laws we would be no better than animals. This is why we have the DEA,and Task Forces, because of people like the 3 who were killed. If people just played by the rules and regulations we wouldent have these problems.
Ned Ludd February 9, 2013 at 02:59 am
When a rule or law causes more problems than it solves, the law should be scrapped. Case in point, the most recent violence. Sure, if everyone obeyed the law, no one would have been killed. Duh. But since there is a market (capitalism, even illegal is still our operating system), and the harm is minimal and personal (compared to alcohol or tobacco), the most logical thing to do is to legalize.

Wow, Former Petaluma Resident One of 3 Men Killed in Forestville work place hazard. Just ask those warriors at Fort Hood about working at safe work place.
kal February 9, 2013 at 01:42 pm
If we fully legalize marijuana the legal growers will go broke legalization is not the answer. Regulation and strickter laws on people who are interstate trafficing is what is needed.
kal February 9, 2013 at 03:09 pm
(Even illegal is are operating system) what a joke ned ludd.

I think that showing The Hunger Games in this venue is a mistake. These outdoor family film showingsRead More do attract families, and frequently families with younger children. It would be close to child abuse to permit a younger child to watch this movie. Not so sure it would be a good idea for teens either. I believe that this choice was not well thought out. I hope it can be changed to something that would be beneficial for all ages to see. For example, I recommend a film called "Like Stars on Earth" directed by Aamir Khan. A very moving and thoughtful film.
