Petaluma police arrested four people Tuesday for allegedly buying merchandise with a fraudulent credit card at the Kohl's store in Petaluma.
The suspects obtained a Kohl's credit card at the store at 1363 N. McDowell Blvd. using fraudulent information around 5:40 p.m. Tuesday, Sgt. Tara Salizzoni said.
They then bought a large quantity of merchandise with the Kohl's card and placed it in a vehicle, Salizzoni said.
The suspects returned to the store to buy more merchandise with the Kohl's card but fled when the card was rejected at the register, Salizzoni said.
Kohl's employees called police and the suspects were caught in the vehicle a block away.
Police arrested James Costello, 64, and Ramell Dudley, 42, both of Richmond, Jerraud Ford, 38, of Oakland and Marcella Roles, 45, of Sacramento.
They were booked in the Sonoma County Jail under $1 million bail for felony burglary, conspiracy, misdemeanor fraud and identity theft, Salizzoni said.
Police searched the suspects' belongings and found evidence the group had the personal information of a large number of victims throughout the country, Salizzoni said.
Detectives are trying to contact all the identity theft victims, Salizzoni said.
