High Speed Chase Locates Stolen Car

Forty cars stolen from Petaluma streets this year, according to police

A chase Wednesday morning on Lakeville Highway located a car that had been stolen over the weekend, although the driver abandoned the vehicle and couldn't be found.

A Petaluma police officer was on Lakeville Highway at 8am when he saw an Audi speed by him. The car was driving at 63 miles per hour in a 45 mile per hour zone. The officer immediately followed the car, which made a U-turn and fled.

Due to heavy traffic, and the speed of the fleeing vehicle, the officer lost sight of it near the intersection of Frates Road and Ely Blvd South. Responding officers found the vehicle on Calle Ranchero Drive unoccupied.
