Kids Seriously Injured in Crash near Infineon Raceway

Two children airlifted to Oakland hospital; none of the four injured people were Marin residents.

Eastbound Highway 37 traffic in southern Sonoma County was tied up Tuesday morning when two cars crashed near Infineon Raceway, sending four people to Bay Area hospitals, the California Highway Patrol said.

A Vallejo man and his kids, ages 7 and 10, were in a 1982 Honda Civic that collided at the junction of highways 37 and 121 with a 2005 Toyota Scion driven by a Fairfield woman, CHP Officer Eric Hohmeister said. The crash took place at 7:20 a.m. and created a road closure of about 40 minutes while paramedics tended to the injured and debris was cleared.

The children were airlifted to Oakland Children's Hospital with major head injuries, although they were conscious and responsive at the collision site, Hohmeister said.

The Fairfield woman, age 53, was taken to Kaiser hospital in Vallejo with pain in her torso and ribs. The Vallejo man, 38, was taken to Petaluma Valley Hospital for lacerations to his face and head.

Officers from the CHP Marin Area office are investigating the crash.
