Man Allegedly Strangles Girlfriend in Downtown Petaluma

A 22-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of strangling his girlfriend in downtown Petaluma on Friday night, police said.

At about 11:56 p.m., officers received a report of a male suspect in the vicinity of G and First streets pinning a female victim to the ground by her neck.

The male and female separated as police responded to the scene, but officers found the female victim a short time later at an open business located nearby. The victim had visible injury and reported that her boyfriend had strangled her, according to police.

The victim was taken to Petaluma Valley Hospital to be evaluated for her injuries, police said.

Oliver Ramirez was identified as the suspect and arrested for assault with a deadly weapon (bodily force) and for domestic violence. He was booked into the Sonoma County Jail, police said.
