Man Allegedly Threatens Landlord With Knife, is Arrested

Sonoma County sheriff's deputies arrested a Santa Rosa man on Tuesday afternoon for allegedly threatening his landlord with a knife and demanding that he withdraw money from a bank.

The 76-year-old landlord said 23-year-old Anthony Greene held a knife a foot away from his neck and threatened to kill him in his home on Baird Road just outside of Santa Rosa city limits.

Deputies responded to the home around 3:30 p.m. when the victim managed to call authorities for help after Greene became distracted, according to the sheriff's office.

Arriving deputies could see Greene through a window of the residence, still holding the knife, and they ordered him to drop the weapon and come outside, sheriff's officials said.

Greene came out of the house but refused to drop the knife, instead threatening to kill the deputies and himself, according to the sheriff's office.

Greene then went back inside the house, but a trained hostage negotiator eventually convinced him to put down the knife and surrender, sheriff's officials said.

Greene was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon, attempted robbery, attempted kidnapping, elder abuse and making terrorist threats. He was booked into Sonoma County Jail and was being held on $101,000 bail.
