Man Arrested for Road Rage Incident

Spits on driver, threatens him with a gun

A Petaluma man was arrested Tuesday night after pulling out a gun on another driver on East Washington Street in what police are describing as an incident of road rage.

At around 4:30pm, dispatch received a call from a citizen that stated that a man had just pointed a handgun at him, then followed him to a nearby parking lot where he spat on him, according to Sgt. Andrew Urton.

The victim was able to give the license plate and police were able to locate the suspect driving at high speeds. Police gave chase, but the man eluded them. He was apprehended a little later in the 500 block of Laurel Street. He was identified as 21-year-old Adam Benfarhat.

A handgun with ammunition was located in the trunk of Benfarhat’s vehicle. He was charged was assault with a deadly weapon, battery and evading police and booked at Sonoma county Jail with a bail of $50,000.
