Man Arrested in Petaluma for Speeding, Drunk Driving

The San Mateo man was pulled over near the Lakeville Street exit.

California Highway Patrol officers arrested a San Mateo man on suspicion of driving under the influence in Sonoma County Wednesday after he was stopped for driving more than 100 mph.

An officer on patrol on southbound U.S. Highway 101 near Pepper Road spotted a Nissan Sentra speeding.

The officer confirmed that the Nissan was going 100 mph, CHP officials said.

The driver accelerated to around 110 mph and began to drive erratically when the officer attempted to overtake him, according to the CHP.

The driver pulled over near the Lakeville Street exit in Petaluma and was identified as 22-year-old Joel Carlos Rivera, CHP officials said.

According to the CHP, Rivera has four current suspensions and multiple convictions for driving without a license.

Rivera failed sobriety tests and was arrested on suspicion of DUI and driving with a suspended license, CHP officials said.
