Man Allegedly Flees From Police in Car Stolen From Sonoma County

A Bodega Bay man was arrested in Marin County Saturday after allegedly fleeing from police in a car that had been stolen in Santa Rosa only 45 minutes earlier, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The 1995 Toyota Camry was spotted by a CHP officer on southbound U.S. Highway 101 near the Seminary Drive off-ramp around 7:10 a.m. on Saturday as it sped by at more than 80 mph, CHP Sgt. Marcus Bartholomew said. 

The car did not pull over when the officer attempted a traffic stop, and continued south before taking the Rodeo Avenue exit.

At the dead end at the end of the exit, the driver jumped out and ran into a wooded area west of the freeway, Bartholomew said. 

Officers determined the vehicle had been stolen out of a driveway in Santa Rosa around 45 minutes earlier when a resident had left it running on the driveway to warm up, Bartholomew said.

A search of the area was conducted and the suspect was eventually located hiding in the first block of Lincoln Drive in Sausalito. 

Bodega Bay resident Christopher Poe-Garcia, 32, was arrested around 8:30 a.m. on suspicion of vehicle theft, possession of stolen property, driving under the influence of a drug, resisting a police officer and parole violation. He was booked into Marin County Jail.
