Man Found Asleep Behind Wheel While Car Still Running

Petaluma resident nabbed for third DUI

A 68-year-old Petaluma man was arrested Monday morning after police found him passed out behind the wheel of a car near Bank of America at 181 N. McDowell Blvd. The car’s motor was still running.

An investigation revealed that the suspect, later identified as Don Tanksley, drove to the shopping center while under the influence of alcohol and fell asleep behind the wheel.

When police found him, Tanksley’s blood alcohol level tested at .28 percent, more than three times the legal amount. The suspect is currently on probation for two other DUIs and has a suspended license.

Tanksley’s vehicle was impounded for 30 days and he was booked at Sonoma County Jail with bail set at $70,000.
