Man Tased After Leading Police on High-Speed Chase

Petaluma officers used a Taser to subdue and arrest a man who led police on a high-speed Monday.

Nathan Isaac Ingram, 26, of Hayward, was booked into Sonoma County Jail on car theft, evading police and other charges after officers had to use a spike strip to blow out his tires when he refused to pull over, police said.

At about 2:30 a.m. Monday, police spotted a white pickup truck entering a southbound lane of U.S. Highway 101 at East Washington Street that had just been reported stolen from the 1500 block of Anna Way in Petaluma, police said.

Patrol officers pursued the truck and tried to stop it at Petaluma Boulevard South, but Ingram drove onto the freeway at speeds reaching 100 mph before exiting on East Washington, police said. 

Ingram then turned southward onto Adobe Road to Stage Gulch Road in Petaluma and refused to stop while police drove behind him. Petaluma police, working with deputies of the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office, placed a spike strip on north McDowell Boulevard at Old Redwood Highway to try to blow out the truck's tires.

The truck hit the spike, but despite driving on flat tires, Ingram veered west to the 5100 block of Old Redwood Highway, made a sudden U-turn and left the roadway, but was then boxed in by police vehicles.

Ingram refused to comply with instructions from officers, who removed him from the truck. They then had to stun him with a Taser after he resisted arrest, police said.

Police took Ingram to the Petaluma Valley Hospital for examination and later booked him into county jail on charges of car theft, evading police and possession of burglary tools.

Officers later found that Ingram had two outstanding felony arrest warrants for car theft and evading police officers.
