Police in Petaluma are searching for a suspect who stabbed a man as he sat in his car letting his windows defrost early Sunday morning.

Officers responded to Petaluma Valley Hospital at around 4:30 a.m. after an apparent stabbing victim walked into an emergency room, according to Petaluma police.

The victim, a 33-year-old man, said he had spent the evening with friends at Graton Casino in Rohnert Park, and had been dropped off at his vehicle that was parked in a lot in the 4900 block of Petaluma Boulevard, police said.

While waiting for his windows to defrost with the driver side window down, a white man in his 20s approached the vehicle and began yelling at the victim, police said.

During the altercation, the suspect stabbed the victim several times on his arm and in the upper chest, police said.

The victim managed to drive away and went directly to the hospital, police said.

He was transferred to a trauma center and is expected to survive his injuries.

The suspect was described as standing around 6 feet tall with a thin build, and short buzzed hair. He was wearing a dark jacket, and no suspect vehicle was seen.

Anyone who might have information about the stabbing is asked to contact Petaluma police at (707) 778-4372.
