Man Tries to Rob Downtown Store

Threatens employee with a pair of scissors

Police are asking for the public’s help in locating a man who tried to rob a downtown business and threatened an employee with a pair of scissors.

The incident occurred shortly after 6pm at Caravan Imports, located at 98 Western Ave. on Monday.

Police say the suspect entered the clothing store and ordered an employee to open the cash register. When the employee refused, the man picked up a pair of scissors and threatened the worker.

The suspect then fled on foot. He is described as a white man, 25-30 years old, 5’8, with a medium to heavy build and with a brownish/red goatee. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, with gray horizontal stripes and a purple undershirt.

Police arrived about a minute after being called and set up a perimeter around the store, but could not locate the man. Anyone who witnessed the accident or has any information about the crime is being asked to call Petaluma police at 778-4372.
