A man was arrested for allegedly driving drunk with a child in his vehicle in Petaluma on Saturday night, a police sergeant said.

Officers responded to a report of a driver under the influence who had just left a gas station in a car on Lakeville Street around 8 p.m., Sgt. Andrew Upton said.

A witness described the vehicle and its license plate number to police, Upton said.

An officer located the vehicle driving north on U.S. Highway 101 near Cotati and used his emergency lights and siren to make a traffic stop on the suspect, he said.

The suspect vehicle exited the freeway at Todd Road in Santa Rosa and led the officer on a slow speed pursuit of 30 to 35 mph for about one and a half miles, Upton said.

The vehicle eventually stopped in the 100 block of Eddy Drive in Santa Rosa and the driver fled on foot leaving behind an adult passenger and child in the car, he said.

A perimeter was set up in the area by the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office, Santa Rosa police and California Highway Patrol, Upton said.

The driver, identified as 29-year-old Adrian Lopez De La Cruz of Santa Rosa, was found hiding in the area and taken in custody.

De La Cruz is on probation for a DUI conviction and his driver's license was suspended, Upton said.

A Breathalyzer test revealed his blood alcohol level was at 0.18 percent, he said.

De La Cruz was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, child endangerment, evading a police officer, violating a DUI probation and driving with a suspended license. He was booked into Sonoma County jail in lieu of $25,000 bail.
