A man was extricated from a car pinned under a big rig on northbound Highway 101 near Petaluma, sources said Tuesday afternoon, but his injuries appeared to be minor.
Northbound midday traffic backed up well into Novato as first responders tended to the driver of a four-door Nissan Sentra that collided with a red dump truck and trailer at 2:44 p.m. near Kastania Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A Sig alert was issued at 3:03 p.m. and all lanes were reopened at 3:32 p.m.
A source at the Novato Fire District said personnel from the Petaluma Fire Department extricated the man and mutual aid from Novato Fire was cancelled.
Several lanes of traffic were closed as CHP officers and other public safety personnel worked at the wreck site. The traffic backup was solid almost to Highway 37 in Novato, Officer John Sloat said.
"It's going to be a long ride home," he said.
Sloat said the man had minor injuries but didn't know whether he was transported to a hospital.
