Mom Arrested for Stealing Money From Kids' Preschool

Allegedly took wallets, checks and cash, then went shopping

PETALUMA, CA -- A local woman was arrested Monday after allegedly stealing wallets belonging to teachers at the preschool her children attend.

Starrlynn Martin, a 32-year-old mother of two, allegedly stole at least four wallets from teachers at Stars Preschool, then went shopping with the cash and checks.

According to the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office, the string of thefts began on October 1 when one teacher noticed that her wallet was missing after leaving her purse in the classroom. She initially believed she has misplaced her wallet, but then saw transactions at Whole Foods and Lucky’s that she had not made.

Later that month, detectives say Martin stole two more wallets from teachers and used debit cards to purchase gas. But when she allegedly tried to buy cigarettes and beer at 7-Eleven and food at Steal Bear Deli, the cards were declined because they had been reported stolen.

One of the teachers at the school called Martin about the theft, but she denied having taken anything. But Martin was caught when surveillance cameras outside of Lucky’s and Steal Bear Deli showed her using the stolen cards.

Martin was arrested at her home Monday morning and confessed to having stolen the property. She has been charged with six counts of burglary, two counts of forgery, two counts of passing stolen checks, ID theft, attempted burglary, and attempted theft with a debit card and booked into Sonoma County Main Jail.

What is this country coming to!? Several months ago it was a mother stealing from purses at La Tercera School, long term trusted employees stealing from their employers....no concience, until you are caught!

Awww, dont blame it on the good old USA. Its obviously a poor upbringing -- or drugs!

This "country" isn't "coming" to anything, save for sensationalizing petty crimes on Internet Blogs. Of course it would have been interesting to see what peoples reactions were had the Internet been around when Al Capone freely walked the streets...LOL
Seriously....it's a bummer to see that this happened, but stealing from one another has been going on since the days of Cave Men. So the lesson here for the ladies is to place their purses out of sight. That way, crimes of "opportunity" are reduced. Glad to see the thieving Mom got caught though!

Shaking my head. Sad thing is, I DO BELIEVE IT. Beer & cigs huh? And her kids, what about them?

She is probably suffering from the diseases of alcoholism or drug addiction which makes people do the awfulest of things.

Dominique knows what she speaks of...as for her kids..wish people would be more considerate to what they're going thru before posting names...they have to live with this..not us.
Sandi Melia November 13, 2012 at 06:12 pm
And when you commit a crime your name is public record. I'm sure this mother knew that fact. It's a shame for her kids it's all bad uncool illegal behavior. Does not appear to be theft to feed her hungry family. Beer & cigs don't cover that, sorry...

I don't lnow what country YOU live in, Audrey, but the United States has nothing to do with it. People know right from wrong & they make their own choices.

OK she decided to steal instead of seeking aid when there is so much of it out there. so 0 tollerance. I hope the judge makes her do probation and cummunity service for 3 or more years. Make these bad eggs do a shorter jail time but a long time giving back to others to show them the right way to live and treat others, as well to aid people like her if she had asked for help in the first place. NO EXCUSES. GUILTY Shame on you Lady. I feel for the victim/'s. what a hassel you all must of had or have to do to recover back to where you were! My advice be kind not evil and discard mean people out of your life!
Pay the price!

yes it is a shame. seeking for aid, yes she was doing that. mental illness yes she had it, family support none! cigarettes and beer? not a fact, desperate for food for her children and gas to get her children to school yes... the real shame here is that after her many attempts of and cries for help there were none. less than half of this article is actual fact, but honestly it is what it is, and a mother's cry for help but nobody to see it but the victim who were preschool teachers failed to mention that they were only friend s

and honestly I don't care what anybody has to say but it with people who were actually around that know the truth and attempts she was making for a better life for her children! I wonder how come nobody asked if she had family or friends or where the father of the children was? yeah you're right it's a shame

We have failed our kids who are now in their 20s. The jobs they should have are not there and no oneRead More seems to care. What you are seeing is the underground economy, which is how they survive. No, it's not good, but it is how they are surviving. Talk to your Congressional representatives! They want real jobs and real lives!
You are fun!

I think that showing The Hunger Games in this venue is a mistake. These outdoor family film showingsRead More do attract families, and frequently families with younger children. It would be close to child abuse to permit a younger child to watch this movie. Not so sure it would be a good idea for teens either. I believe that this choice was not well thought out. I hope it can be changed to something that would be beneficial for all ages to see. For example, I recommend a film called "Like Stars on Earth" directed by Aamir Khan. A very moving and thoughtful film.
