A 32-year-old Petaluma woman was arrested Friday for suspicion of driving under the influence, child endangerment and hit and run on Lakeville and East Washington streets, according to police.
A witness called the Petaluma Police Department at approximately 8:36 p.m. from the CVS store at 365 East Washington St. after seeing a beige Honda Utility hit the back of another vehicle as it turned into the CVS parking lot.
The witness followed the Honda as it continued westbound on East Washington after the collision, without stopping, and then continued traveling through the downtown area until it ran up onto a curb, police said.
A second witness also phoned the police and both observers stated there were two small children in the Honda's backseat, police said.
The Honda continued, with one witness still on its tail, to an address on B Street where officers arrived and arrested the Honda driver, Brooke Lopaka, at her home, police said.
In the car with Lopaka, police said, were her 7-year-old daughter and 4-year-old son, whom she admitted were passengers in her vehicle prior to her arriving at home.
Lopaka was extremely intoxicated and unable to perform field sobriety tests, the department said, and officers determined the damage to Lopaka’s vehicle matched the damage to the car on East Washington.
No one was injured in the collision.Lopaka was taken to Petaluma Valley Hospital for an evidentiary blood draw then transported and booked into the Sonoma County Jail where she is being held on $40,000 bail.
Her two children were released to a family member, police said.
