A Saturday night at the racetrack turned tragic when a car driven by a Petaluma teen lost control and ran into the pit row.
The incident occurred at the Marysville Racetrack, about 40 miles north of Sacramento, killing a 14-year-old boy and a 68-year-old man.
Sprint cars were doing practice or “hot laps” about an hour before the race when a car traveling at about 90 mph couldn’t negotiate a turn and ran into the gap between the track and the pit row.
A 17-year-old student at Petaluma High School who has been racing for two years has been identified as the driver, but Patch is withholding the name because the driver is a minor and has not been charged.
The Yuba County Sheriff’s Office is conducting an investigation into the incident.
