Man Calls 911 on Himself, Says He is Being Chased

DUI in Construction Zone

A 23-year-old Rohnert Park man was arrested Thursday night after phoning Petaluma police to say that he was on high on methamphetamines and that people were pursuing him.

Jeffrey Curtis Kadin was spotted Thursday, around 7:45am, driving erratically on Petaluma Boulevard and pulled over. He was charged with being under the influence of a controlled substance and booked into Sonoma County Jail. Police say there is no evidence that Kadin had been pursued, attacked, or threatened by anyone. 

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, a Petaluma man was arrested after he plowed into a coned off construction zone on highway 116 at 101, according to the California Highway Patrol. When questioned by CHP officers, William Keith McLelland, Jr, 54, said he had just had dinner at Applebee's and was driving around looking for an ATM to pay for his dinner.

McClelland appeared confused and was found to be "extremely intoxicated," accordingn to CHP, and was charged with driving under the influence. McClelland caught the attention of officers in the area when he made an illegal u-turn, crossed over the cone pattern, and enter the coned off construction zone.

His Chevy then proceeded through the construction zone, until it came to another set of cones, and barriers, where it came to a stop.

Every year, officers, construction workers, and Cal Trans personnel are injured, and in some cases, killed, due to DUI or reckless drivers within construction zones. The CHP urges the motoring public to report reckless and possible DUI drivers by dialing 911 and slow down in construction areas.
