Petaluma Man Arrested for Alleged Kmart Burglary

Police say they responded to an alarm early Saturday and found a man in the store trying to hide.

A 32-year-old Petaluma was caught in the midst of a burglary of Kmart on North McDowell Blvd. early Saturday, according to Petaluma Police.

Officer Mike Page responded to an activated alarm at the store at 261 McDowell Blvd. at around 12:30 a.m. Saturday. When he arrived, he spotted a man moving around the store trying to hide, according to Petaluma Sgt. Ed Crosby.

Page ordered the man to surrender, which he did. Page arrested Jason Michael Remel, 32, on suspicion of burglary and committing a felony while out on bail for a prior case. Remel had been arrested Jan. 11 on suspicion of felony possession of controlled narcotic substances and misdemeanor charges of possession drug paraphernalia.

He was booked into Sonoma County Jail.
