Petaluma Man Killed in Vallejo Car Accident

Wife suffers serious injuries after another driver runs red light

Correction: The article incorrectly stated that Lisa Hernandez is married to George Hernandez. She is his former wife. Petaluma Patch regrets the error.

A Petaluma man was killed Sunday morning when the car he was riding in was broadsided by a pickup truck in Vallejo.

George Hernandez, 39, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which occurred at about 11 a.m. at Sonoma Boulevard and Yolano Drive, Vallejo police Lt. Eric Mortenson said.

Hernandez's former wife, Lisa Hernandez, 43, was driving the 2001 Ford Fusion east on Yolano Drive when it was struck by a 1999 Toyota Tacoma pickup headed south on Sonoma Boulevard, Mortenson said.

The driver of the pickup, a 39-year-old Kelseyville woman, apparently ran a red light and hit the driver's side of the Ford, Mortenson said.

Witnesses said the Toyota was traveling at about 40 mph when the crash happened, Mortenson said.

Lisa Hernandez suffered fractures and other serious injuries and was taken to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, Mortenson said.

The driver of the Toyota, who was alone in the pickup, was not injured or arrested, and the accident is still under investigation, Mortenson said.
