Petaluma Police's K9 Unit Scoops Up 12 Awards

Petaluma began using dogs in investigations in 1967, the first law enforcement agency in the North Bay to do so.

Police dogs help officers search for drugs or apprehend criminals and are considered just as much part of a department as any of the officers.

In fact, Petaluma was the first police department in the North Bay to begin using dogs in 1967 and today has three K9s: Rico and Kilo, both Belgian Malanois, and Tango, a Dutch Sheppard.
