Petaluma Police Want You...for a Citizen Academy

After a five year hiatus, the program is back, with a chance to get an inside view of what it's like to be a police officer

The Petaluma Police Department is bringing back the Citizen Academy, a 10-week class that offers an inside look at what it’s like to be a be a cop.

Meeting every Wednesday from 6pm to 9pm, participants will have the chance to meet and interact with the chief of police, command staff and officers, and go on a ride along. Students will also spend one Saturday attending the regional police academy in Windsor.

The goal is to improve relations between the department and the community and recruit new volunteers for the agency, said Police Chief Patrick Williams.

The course is open to anyone 18 years old and without a felony conviction. Petaluma residents or people who work in town are given priority, although residents of other cities may be accepted based on available space.

For more information and to fill out an application, visit www.cityofpetaluma.net/police/index.html or call Lieutenant Mike Cook at (707) 776-3743
