Petaluma Resident Nabbed After Stealing From Her Child's College Fund

Also took out a loan in her step-daughter's name, then went shopping with the cash

A 43-year-old Petaluma woman was arrested Wednesday on charges of stealing $30,000 from her step-daughter’s college fund.

According to police, Kendall Joaquim allegedly stole an inheritance check intended for her step daughter’s education, then cashed it and spent it on her own purchases.

The theft was discovered after Joaquim’s estranged husband began to scrutinize his bank accounts and noticed unauthorized withdrawls. Kendall also allegedly took money out of the victim's retirement account and obtained a college school loan for almost $30,000 in the victim's name without his knowledge.

She was arrested at her Petaluma home Wednesday and has been charged with three counts of grand theft, ID theft, forgery and using a Computer to commit a theft.
