Petaluma to Hold First 'National Night Out'
The event has been held annually in cities across the United States and Canada on the first Tuesday of August since 1984.
National Night Out is coming to Petaluma.
The Petaluma Police Department on Thursday announced that it will hold the event for its first time on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. in the parking lot of the new Target Store on East Washington Street.
The police department is holding the event in partnership with the Target store, Lt. Tim Lyons said.

The National Association of Town Watch-sponsored crime-prevention program has been held annually in cities across the United States and Canada on the first Tuesday of August since 1984.
The event aims to increase awareness about police programs in communities, such as drug prevention, neighborhood watch, and anti-crime efforts, Lyons said.

The event is open to the public. It will feature a barbecue and children's activities along with the opportunity to meet police personnel.
