Police Cite 14 For License Violations During Dual DUI Checkpoints

Police screened over 900 motorists during dual checkpoints conducted Friday and Saturday.

A pair of DUI checkpoints Friday and Saturday in Petaluma yielded no DUI arrests, but plenty of citations.

Petaluma police cited 14 motorists for drivers license violations, according to the Petaluma Police Department.

Police set up the first checkpoint along northbound Sonoma Mountain Parkway at Castle Drive between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. The checkpoint recorded the following activity:

  • 738 vehicles passed through the checkpoint
  • 638 drivers were screened by officers for signs of DUI or license violations
  • 17 drivers were sent into a secondary evaluation area for further investigation
  • 8 drivers were arrested
  • 0 drivers were arrested for DUI
  • 3 drivers were arrested and cited for driving on a suspended license
  • 3 drivers were arrested and cited for driving without a license
  • 2 vehicle was impounded for 30 days


The second checkpoint was northbound Petaluma Blvd North at Gossage Avenue between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m. The checkpoint recorded the following activity:

  • 288 vehicles passed through the checkpoint
  • 277 drivers were screened by officers for signs of DUI or license violations
  • 25 drivers were sent into a secondary evaluation area for further investigation
  • 2 drivers were arrested
  • 0 drivers were arrested for DUI
  • 2 drivers were arrested and cited for driving on a suspended license
  • 4 drivers were arrested and cited for driving without a license
  • 2 vehicles were impounded for 30 days


There were no DUI arrests made at the two checkpoints. Funding for this program has been provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS), through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
