Police Issue 140 Citations During Friday's Speed Enforcement

Includes more than two dozen tickets to drivers on cell phones

Petaluma police stopped 171 cars and issued 140 citations during Friday's speed enforcement action in and around Petaluma. Speed is the number one cause of accidents in town, according to police.

Officers issued 77 violations for unsafe speed, 26 violations for cell phone use, along with other violations, including running a stop sign, failing to stop for a pedestrian and following too close.

Additional operations are planned throughout the year. Funding for this traffic safety operation was paid for by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Why don't they fix the continual traffic congestion? And re-set the timing on traffic lights? What's the problem?
