A 15-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting in Santa Rosa early Tuesday morning, a police sergeant said today.

Officers responded to a report of shots fired in the parking lot of an apartment complex located at 2001 Piner Road at about 2 a.m., Sgt. David Linscomb said.

He was treated at the scene and transported to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, police said.

Toney was not a resident of the apartment complex, police said.

A suspect fled the scene after the shooting and hid in the residence of an acquaintance nearby.

A gun believed to be the weapon used in the shooting was recovered during the investigation, according to Linscomb.

Linscomb said that a 15-year-old, whose name is being withheld because he is a juvenile, was arrested and booked into jail on suspicion of the murder of Toney.

Witnesses said there appeared to be some sort of argument before gunfire broke out, according to police.

The shooting remains under investigation. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Santa Rosa police at (707) 543-3590.
