Police Seeking Driver, Passenger in Hit and Run

Pedestrian was struck on Thursday evening in downtown Petaluma

Police are asking for the public’s help in locating the owner of a car that struck a pedestrian in downtown Petaluma Thursday night.

A 55-year-old woman was crossing at the intersection of Petaluma Boulevard and B Street when she was hit by a car. She suffered minor injuries.

The suspect car is described as either a white BMW or similar sport utility vehicle, driven by a male driver. After the vehicle struck the woman, the car stopped and the driver spoke briefly with the pedestrian before driving away from the scene.

Anyone with information about the driver is asked to contact Petaluma Police Officer Matthew Capitelli at 707.776.3721.

Drivers not obeying crosswalk rules is rampant in downtown petaluma. As a community, is there anything we can do?

The random "stings" that PPD has done to cite offenders (not obeying ped. Crossing laws) have always seemed to yeild a fair amount of stops. Those can be done more often...of course the city can also employ traffic cameras on intersections and hopefully see a decline in injury/accidents and an increase in safety.
