Police Warn Public of Fraudulent Street Sales

Group of young men selling cologne; say they are from Antioch

Petaluma police are warning residents to beware of vendors selling products or services on the streets of Petaluma.

Over the past couple of weeks, a group of young men have been selling cologne in downtown Petaluma, even spraying wrists as way of advertisement. But police say the group is engaged in criminal activity after at least one buyer purchased a box of cologne only to find that it was filled with rubbing alcohol.

When this reporter saw vendors on a recent day and asked where they were from, she was told they were from Antioch and the organization raised money to "help kids stay off the streets." They would not give the name of the organization or the person in charge.
