Exploded Transformer Causes Power Outage Sunday

West Petaluma most affected after transformer explodes and power lines are down in area of Petaluma Boulevard North near the outlets

Pacific Gas & Electric crews are working to fix a power outage mostly affecting the west side of Petaluma Sunday afternoon, police said.

Petaluma Police said the outage occurred at about 2:20 p.m. Sunday when power lines came down as the result of an exploding transformer in the area of Petaluma Boulevard North near the factory outlets.

Police said they had no word on what caused the transformer to explode. They had not yet received a total count of affected households, but police staff said some homes and businesses on the east side of Petaluma were also affected.

There was no immediate word on when power would be restored.

Power was restored right around 4 pm over at Expedition Island. It was going on and off throughout the afternoon during our egg hunt... (An extra challenge for the explorers!)
