Reno Man Identified as Sunday's Crash Victim on I-80 near Vacaville

This marks the fifth fatal accident -- totalling six deaths -- in the past nine days in Napa, Sonoma and Solano counties.

A Nevada man was killed in a crash on Interstate Highway 80 in Vacaville on Sunday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol.

At about 3:40 p.m. Sunday, the 59-year-old Reno man was driving on westbound Highway 80 west of the Pena Adobe overcrossing at speeds between 65 to 70 mph, the CHP said.

For unknown reasons the man veered his vehicle to the right, left the roadway and continued southwest along the grass shoulder, according to the CHP.

The vehicle struck into a black and white regulatory sign and oak tree before coming to rest on the grass shoulder, the CHP said.

The CHP and Vacaville Fire Department responded to the scene and administered CPR on the man, according to the CHP. He was then transported to Northbay Medical Center in Fairfield for major injuries and pronounced dead at about 4:40 p.m., the CHP said.

His identity is being withheld pending notification of his next of kin. The CHP is investigating whether alcohol or drugs were factors in the collision.

A westbound lane was partially closed for about an hour and half as the CHP investigated the scene and had the vehicle removed.
