Rubi Found Near Fresno

Police locate missing Petaluma teen after TV viewer phones in tip

Missing Petaluma teen Rubi Cruz Mendoza has been found in a town near Fresno, according to police.

The 15-year-old was found at a home in Selma, a small farming community south of Fresno, after Spanish language station Univision received a tip from a viewer. Univision then notified Petaluma police who alerted officers in Selma.

Hilario Matus Carmona, Rubi’s godfather with whom she was last seen, was arrested without incident. He is being held at Sonoma County Jail and has been charged with child abuse and taking or concealing a child.

The child abuse allegation stems from Matus Carmona shoving a teen who was accompanying Rubi before she got into the suspect's car.

It's still not clear if Rubi left willingly or was abducted.
