Saturday Night Fire Displaces Family

Starts when toaster catches on fire

A kitchen fire in a Westside home Saturday night has displaced a woman and her three children, the Petaluma Fire Department said.

The fire department received a call from the 100 block of Ravenswood Court after a toaster caught fire in the home and flames quickly spread through the kitchen.

A woman and her three children were asleep, but woke up after smoke detectors went off. The family was able to escape unharmed and firefighters quickly put out the blaze. Damage was estimated at $70,000.

Interviewed by Patch, the resident said the family was staying with friends and had fire insurance on the home. Fire officials remind residents to make sure smoke detectors are in place and are working.
