Search Continues for Missing Fisherman

U.S. Coast Guard has searched 1,4000 miles of land and sea, but says there is no trace of men

Despite intensive search efforts that have so far covered 1,400 square miles, the U.S. Coast Guard on Thursday said there is no trace of the seven men missing since their boat sunk 60 miles off the coast of San Felipe, Baja last Sunday.

Two Sonoma County men are among the missing, including , 49, and Four other men from Sonoma County who were aboard the Erik, the ill-fated fishing boat, have been rescued, some after clinging to ice coolers for hours.

On Thursday, a U.S. Coast Guard C-130 Hercules aircraft sent from Sacramento, completed a 300 square-mile search grid in the Sea of Cortez near Isla San Luis, Mexico, as part of the overall search effort.

The Mexican Navy is also conducting searches by boat and airplanes and have found the boat, but not the passengers. On Sunday, a dive team from Hawaii is expected to search the wreckage of the vessel, according to the Contra Costa Times.

Meanwhile, 16 of the American survivors returned to the U.S. Thursday, with three men staying as rescuers try to locate their brother, Brian Wong, of Berkeley.
