Seven Apprehended in Petaluma Police-Led Avoid the 13 Court Sting

The sting was part of Sonoma County's AVOID the 13 DUI Task Force.

The Petaluma Police Department led an undercover sting today at the Sonoma County Hall of Justice that resulted in the apprehension of seven people suspected of driving with suspended licenses or unlicensed.

The sting was held today from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The operation was part of Sonoma County's Avoid the 13 DUI Task Force, an ongoing program that aims to apprehend dangerous drivers and reduce alcohol-related collisions through increased enforcement and public awareness.

Most of the cases involved suspects appearing in court for DUI offenses.

Plain-clothed officers tailed the suspects as they left the court, with other officers waiting in vehicles nearby arresting suspects who got behind the wheel of a vehicle as they drove off.

This operation was conducted as part of the Aug. 16 to Sept. 2 2013 National Summer Mobilization period.

Additional court stings will be held throughout the remainder of the year.

Funding for the Avoid campaign is pair for by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
