Firefighters contained a small brush fire at a homeless encampment in Petaluma on Thursday morning, fire officials said.

The fire was reported at 11:38 a.m. around Hopper Street near Lakeville Highway and U.S. Highway 101, according to the Petaluma Fire Department.

A mix of tall grass and light brush was burning there. Firefighters used hose lines and hand tools to keep it from spreading and contained it to about a half-acre. The fire appears to have started in a homeless encampment. No injuries were reported.
