Sonoma County Bicyclist Injured After Hitting Truck

Robert Casciani, 56, was hospitalized with major injuries.

A bicyclist was seriously injured in a collision with a truck in Sonoma County near Jack London State Historic Park Sunday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The bicyclist, Santa Rosa resident Robert Casciani, 56, was riding east on Sonoma Mountain Road near Enterprise Road, traveling downhill, when he approached a commercial truck heading west, according to CHP Officer Marcus Hawkins.

The roughly 22,000-pound truck was able to come to a complete stop, but Casciani was apparently unable to stop in time or swerve to avoid it, Hawkins said.

Casciani struck the truck, cracking its fiberglass hood. He suffered major injuries, Hawkins said.

He was flown to a hospital for treatment.

Alcohol is not thought to be a factor in the collision.
