Sonoma Pair Nabbed for Vehicle Theft, Drug Possession

Girlfriend tried to block police from stopping stolen car driven by boyfriend

Two Sonoma residents were arrested in Petaluma Saturday night after they were found driving a stolen vehicle and in possession of methamphetamine, according to the Petaluma Police Department.

After police ran the car's plates while it was driving on Lakeville Highway near the Highway 101 onramp, they realized it was stolen and attempted to pull it over, said Sgt. Andrew Urton.

But when officers attempted to position themselves behind the stolen vehicle to make the traffic stop, another car driven by the suspect's girlfriend, later identified as 20-year-old Megan Galut, attempted to block the officers.

Despite Galut's attempts, officers were able to position themselves behind the stolen vehicle and stop both cars. A search of Galut's car netted over half an ounce of methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and evidence of narcotic sales, according to Urton. The suspect was also under the influence of methamphetamine at the time of the arrest.

Galut was charged with being an accessory to a crime, possession for sale of narcotics, transportation of narcotics, possession of drug paraphernalia and being under the influence of narcotics. Her boyfriend, identified as Jason Knight, 33, was charged with vehicle theft.
