Teens Arrested on Suspicion of Valentine's Day Vehicle Burglaries

Police say the teenagers, ages 16 and 17, are responsible for vehicle burglaries along Bodega Avenue on Thursday, Feb. 14

Two teenagers were arrested in connection with vehicle burglaries that occurred on Valentine's Day on the 800 block of Bodega Avenue.

The boys, ages 16 and 17, ran away from a group home on Kuck Lane in Petaluma, according to police, and attempted to break into vehicles.

Police said the boys entered two unlocked vehicles at 3 p.m., along the 800 block of Bodega Avenue and took CDs, an iPod, a wallet, cash and other items and then attempted to use a stolen ATM card in Petaluma.

The teenagers used some of the cash to take a taxi ride to San Francisco, where they purchased food and narcotics, police said.

"The runaways were caught by BART Police officers and returned to Petaluma," read a Petaluma Police Department press release. "Detectives interviewed the juveniles when they returned and they admitted to the thefts."

The boys were taken to Juvenile Hall on suspicion of theft from vehicles, use of ATM card without consent, possession of stolen property and committing thefts with previous theft convictions.

Police urge residents from the Bodega Avenue area in Petaluma whom have discovered missing items from their vehicle, to contact the police department at 778-4375.
