Traffic Stop Leads to Felony Arrest
Early morning turn signal stop near Lakeville Highway cascades into county jail overnight
An early morning traffic stop for failure to use a turn signal led to the arrest of a Petaluma man on felony charges Wednesday.
Petaluma Police Officer J. Neigum pulled over a black 2004 Honda Civic driven by David J. Mehr, 33, of Petaluma, shortly after midnight, and ran a routine check on the license plates. The results showed the plates belonged to a Honda, all right – just not the one that Mehr was driving.
Further investigation located Mehr’s plates at another location in Petaluma, and revealed that he was on parole for a felony burglary. An onsite inspection found a third set of plates, also belonging to a Honda, in Mehr’s vehicle, according to Petaluma Public Information Officer Lt. Tim Lyons.

Mehr was arrested on charges of receiving stolen property and a felony parole violation. He was booked at Sonoma County Jail early Wednesday morning, and at last word was still in custody.
A court hearing held Thursday, according to county jail staff, but Mehr was returned to his cell with no bail set. Another hearing is scheduled for Friday morning.
