Two Apprehended for Sebastopol Burglary

Stole credit cards, checkbooks and jewelry

Two Petaluma residents were arrested Wednesday on charges of burglarizing a west county residence near Sebastopol while the residents were at church, according to the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office.

The suspects, Keith Van Guilder, and Charr Willis, both 40, also are implicated in a Cotati residential burglary, sheriff's Sgt. Michael Raasch said.

In the Sebastopol robbery, the men are suspected of stealing credit cards, checkbooks and jewelry from a residence on Hessel Road. The two suspects also allegedly were recorded on a surveillance camera using the stolen credit cards at a CVS pharmacy in Rohnert Park soon after the burglary, Raasch said.

The sheriff's office broadcasted a bulletin asking other law enforcement agencies if they recognized the suspects, Raasch said. A police officer investigating a burglary in Cotati recognized Van Guilder and Willis and notified the sheriff's office, Raasch said.

Sheriff's detectives spotted Willis and Van Guilder in a rented car near the Coddingtown Mall Wednesday afternoon, and a search of the car turned up drugs and stolen property, Raasch said.

Both suspects were out on bail from a previous arrest related to possession of stolen property and conspiracy, Raasch said. Van Guilder and Willis were booked into the Sonoma County jail under $40,000 bail for possession of drugs for sale, transportation of drugs, burglary, grand theft, theft of a credit card, conspiracy and committing a felony while out on bail, Raasch said.

Willis posted bail and Van Guilder will be arraigned Friday afternoon in Sonoma County Superior Court.
