Two Killed Monday A.M. When Car Strikes Pole South Of Santa Rosa

Two people were killed early this morning when a vehicle struck a power pole in unincorporated Sonoma County south of Santa Rosa, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The driver of a Honda Civic ran off of Petaluma Hill Road at a curve about a half-mile from Hunter Lane and struck the pole around 2:30 a.m., CHP Officer Jon Sloat said.

A passenger was ejected from the Honda and died at the scene, Sloat said.

The driver was partially ejected out of the driver's side window and was taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Sloat said.

The names of the two people killed were not immediately available.

The CHP is investigating whether the driver was impaired prior to the crash, Sloat said.
