Two Sustain Serious Injuries in Accident with Tractor

Accident shuts down on Highway 116 Monday morning

Two people were seriously injured when their Ford Crown Victoria crashed head-on into a tractor-trailer on state Highway 116 east of Petaluma this morning, a California Highway Patrol spokesman said.

The Ford was traveling west toward Petaluma east of Adobe Road when the driver made an unsafe turning movement and crashed into an eastbound 18 wheel tractor-trailer around 9:45 a.m., CHP Officer Jaret Paulson said.

Both vehicles sustained major front-end damage, Paulson said. The driver and a female passenger were taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.

The collision pushed the Ford into a Jeep Liberty that was traveling behind it, Paulson said. The drivers of the big-rig and Jeep were not injured.

The highway was shut down at 10 a.m. One-way traffic was allowed through the crash scene beginning at about 10:45 a.m., and Highway 116 reopened around 11 a.m.
