Update: Man Killed in D Street Crash Lost Control of Sports Car

The driver was a 60-year-old man from Petaluma.

A Petaluma man was killed in a solo crash Thursday morning when he lost control and flipped his sports car, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The man, described as a 60-year-old male Petaluma resident, was driving a 2003 kit sports car east on D Street in Petaluma around 10:50 a.m. when the crash occurred, according to Officer Jonathan Sloat.

Witnesses said the driver appears to have been accelerating in an attempt to pass another vehicle east of San Antonio Road when he lost control of the car and went off the roadway, Sloat said. 

The vehicle overturned end over end and came to rest upside down blocking the roadway, Sloat said.

The driver was wearing a lap belt and remained inside. 

His identity has been withheld pending notification of next of kin, Sloat said.
